The Romanian National Passengers

S.A., was asking for:
- A national system for ticketing
- A complex and ambitious project
covering in the first stage the electronic ticket
sales and for futher stages the electronic seat
reservation and other facilities for passengers.
- The "Railway IT"
-S.A. acting as designer and system integrator
- Hewlett Packard and Practical
Automation as technology providers
- Oracle and Microsoft as
standard software providers
IRIS
PROJECT
The IRIS Project started in 1996 as
a part of the Romanian Railways Rehabilitation program
and following the IT Strategy approved by the Company
Board of Directors in 1995.
Within 1996 - 1999 a complex and long
bidding process was completed, following the World
Bank procurement rules and the contract for IRIS was
awarded to International Computers Limited, UK, actually
Fujitsu Company, as prime contractor.
The work started in June 1999 and
the CFR partners in the Contract are:
- Fujitsu Services,
as prime contractor and system integrator
- Sun System and
- Hewlett Packard
as hardware providers,
- Cisco and
- RAD as communications
providers
- Oracle and
- Microsoft as standard
software providers,
- Datastream,
- Intergraph,
- Spear Technologies
as application software packages providers,
- SchlumbergerSema,
as services provider for inhouse developed application
software
